RaceManager - Setup Screen

The Setup screen:

This screen appears at startup or can be chosen by clicking on the Setup tab at the bottom of your screen. It is used to setup the basic characteristics of your race.

Double/Single/Trials:
The system defaults to double elimination, no trials for all divisions. Click near the appropriate circle if you wish to change any of these defaults. These controls may be changed at any time but their setting at the moment the run sheets are being created is the only time their setting matters.

Up/Down controls:
Click the appropriate up/down arrow to change the initial heat spacing, A/B phase alarm time or tie time.

Initial run spacing:
The INITIAL number of runs between Phase A and Phase B of any heat should be chosen with care. The minimum number of runs between the A/B phases depends on how many cars and divisions are racing. The maximum number of runs is equal to the twice the INITIAL number minus 1. If the maximum is too large, the track conditions may change between runs or the wait time may be too large and cause complaints. The INITIAL value must be large enough to allow time for the cars to return to the start without delaying the racing. 6 runs (max 11) is a typical value. Values are limited to between 4 and 8. Using 6 at the start of a round with more than a dozen cars available, there will be 6 runs between the A and B phases of the first run, 7 between the next run, increasing to a maximum of 11 runs between phases. If you race a phase every two minutes then the maximum time between runs will be about 22 minutes, comfortably below the “standard” of 30 minutes. This control may be changed at any time but its setting when the run sheets are being created is the only time its setting matters.

A/B Alarm Minutes:
The A/B Alarm Minutes control is usually set to 30 minutes but can be moved to any single minute value between 20 and 40. The elapsed time between the A phase and B phase of a Heat is displayed on the Runs Available screen (see Race) for your information. When a B phase is selected, if the elapsed time exceeds the alarm time a warning message is displayed. The warning is simply advisory. The race officials may decide what weight to give the warning. This control may be changed at any time. It's current setting is used whenever a B phase is called

Tie Time millisecs:
The tie time defaults to 1 millisecond but may be set to any time from 0 (effectively 0.00005 seconds or less) to 3.0 milliseconds. For reference, a car travelling at about 15 miles per hour travels about 1/8 of an inch in 1 millisecond. The tie time setting is NOT just advisory. If two cars are determined to be tied at the end of the Heat (A and B phase differential), both phases are reset and must be run again. If you do not wish to have this happen, there are two methods to defeat it. One, set the tie time to 0. Two, before accepting the results of a tied heat, use the controls (explained under the Race screen) to disqualify the slower (barely) car. The Race screen also easily handles re-running the tied cars. This control may be changed at any time. It's current setting is used whenever a result is received.

On/Off controls:
Click the appropriate box to turn On or Off the Timer Announce or Flash Lane Lights controls.

Timer announce:
If this box is checked then the announce function of SuperTimer II will be enabled. See announcements for more information. If you do not wish these announcements you can uncheck the Timer Announce box or simply turn down the volume control on SuperTimer II or disconnect the speakers. This control may be changed at any time. It's current setting is used whenever an announcement is expected.

Flash Lane Lights:
When a Lane announcement is (or would be) occurring, the associated Lane light will be activated. Since some locations use spot or flood lights and some locations use rotating beacons, this control has been provided. In general, spot or flood light users would check this control so that the lights flashed and rotating beacon users would uncheck this control so that the beacon rotated continuously. This control may be changed at any time. It's current setting is used whenever the light status is changed.
