The Schedule screen:
This screen
provides the controls to set the initial running order for each division,
make, view and print the run sheet, print the run labels, print the
pre-start labels and print car number labels that include the racer's name and sponsor.
The Initial Running Order:
Three methods are provided to set the initial running order.
1. Car #. If you click here the running order will be by car number,
within the division of course. The lowest two car numbers will be placed
in the first heat, the next two in the next heat, etc. (Assuming that neither
of the first two heats are bye’s.) The cars are NOT placed in the first
pair at the top of the bracket page unless that pair is labeled ‘1’. See
Brackets.
2. Random. If you click on here the computer will randomize the running
order automatically. And, if you click again, it will be a different order.
3. User. If you click here a special screen will appear with all the
relevant car numbers and a block for each number where you must enter the
appropriate position. See Lane Draw before
using this option.
Make Run
Sheet:
Click on Make Run Sheet to create the list of all runs. A box will
display the progress of this operation. This operation is quite complex and may take
several minutes depending on the speed of your computer and the number
of racers. If you have not set the running order an error message will
appear suggesting that you do so.
View Run Sheet: Click to see an example
of part of a Run List.
You can view and/or print the Run Sheet by clicking on the View Run
Sheet button. The sheet includes detailed information on each and every
run of the day. Each Run is also identified by a division and a heat number
as well as a phase. The section on Running the Race discusses using the
Run Sheet.
Print Run Labels:
Load your printer with Avery Label #8167 or equivalent ½” x
1¾” label (typically used for return address labels). Then, click
on Print Run Labels. After a moment or two a new screen will appear with
the run labels. Along the top edge are several icons that allow you to
resize the screen, navigate back and forth through the pages, setup the
printer, print the labels, save the labels (unlikely) in one of four formats
and load in a different report (even more unlikely). Print the labels,
you’ll need them.
Each run label contains three number/letter pairs. Click
to see an example of the Run Labels.
1. The bold number/letter pair is the next run number and phase for
the car with this label on its nose. This number is used to load the trucks
and load the starting gate. It’s the only number really needed.
2. The upper of the small text letter/number pairs starts with W/L for
winner/loser, which is followed by the run number the car just ran. Thus,
for example, W4 goes on the Winner of Run 4; L4 goes on the
Loser of Run 4. Winner and Loser here are RUN winner/losers in Phase A (actually they
both go to the same run so winner/loser has little meaning). In the B Phase, Winner and Loser refer to the HEAT results, not the RUN results (necessarily).
3. The lower of the small text letter/number pairs starts with a letter
that is a shorthand for the Division (Stock, suPerstock, seNior, Master,
sCottie, Extra) and is followed by the Heat number for that Division for
the run just completed. It is informational only.
Pre-Start Labels: Click
to see an example of the Pre-Start Labels.
While the Run labels handle the race once it’s started, they require
that a car run the course before they can be used. They don’t handle the
special case of the first run from the top of the hill. That job is for
the Pre-Start Labels. Load the printer with the same label stock used for
the Run labels and click on Pre-Start Labels to make them. The Pre-Start
Labels appear in Car Number order making it a little easier to distribute
them. These labels include on the left the Division code letter as above
and the Car Number. On the right is the Run number and Phase. The Phase
letter is usually ‘A’ but may be ‘T’ if trial runs are included. As an
aid to understanding, the first two labels repeat the information in this
paragraph in cryptic form.
Beginning at Rev 2.04 a Bracket Aid Report can be generated. Appendix A - Bracket Aid provides
a simple description of how to use this report to generate conventional brackets. NOTE that Brackets are for HEATS, not RUNS.
A Run and a Heat are two different things. A Run is one trip down the hill.
Run numbers are unique. A Run results in a differential time and winning
lane. A Heat is the sum of two associated Runs (A Phase and B Phase). There
may be more than one Heat number X, if there is more then one division
racing. In a Heat the two Run differential times have been added or subtracted
depending on the Run lane winners to arrive at an overall differential
time and a Heat Winner.
The brackets (for up to 36 cars) are shown in the back of the User's Manual and are based on optimized patterns. RaceManager will support up to 196 cars per division.
Car # Labels:
Load your printer with 8 ½” x 11” plain labels (Avery 8165) or if you know someone at UPS, you can use their shipping labels which come two labels to a sheet. This report will print two 5 ½” x 8 ½” labels for each car that include the driver’s name, the car number and the sponsor’s name. A dotted line between the two labels makes it easy to cut them apart if you use full sheet labels.
