Race Administration:
This program alone is
not enough to insure a successful race. You must have good people in strategic
places and those people must understand and accept the RaceManager process
and realize that previous methods may conflict. The people do NOT have
to be Soap Box Derby experts.
People required:
SENIOR JUDGE - operates the computer at the finish line. The computer
should be positioned so that the senior judge can see SuperTimer II, the
screen and the finish line at the same time and thus see that the system
response matches the lane crossings.
LINE JUDGE - stands at the finish line to insure that there are no spurious
crossings and views the cars for the entire length of the run to rule on
potential fouls or disqualification’s. The reasons and thresholds for such
fouls should be well agreed on well ahead of time.
ANNOUNCER - located near the computer at the finish line. While many
of the announcers repetitive duties are handled by SuperTimer II, don’t
forget that many cars have sponsors and many kids have interesting stories.
DOTTER - stands beyond the finish line at the area where the cars stop,
sees the Lane Lights and hears the announced winner and run number. The
DOTTER applies the correct 'dot' (now label) to the front of the car to
indicate the next run down the hill for that car. Note: In previous SuperTimer
versions, the DOTTER had to make up the ‘dots’ by hand and needed a complete
Run List and perhaps more than two hands. In this version, the Run
Labels include all the information required greatly simplifying this
task. The DOTTER must insure that both drivers know that the run number
(bold print) on the front of the car is the number they need to keep in
mind, not the car number or heat number. They can also tell the racer the
approximate time in minutes until they run again by subtracting the current
run number (upper left on label) from the dot run number (right side of
label) and multiplying by 2 if the average time between runs is two minutes.
The DOTTER also usually applies the Pre-Start
Labels.
LOADER - loads the trucks in 'dot' numeric order. Needs to be able to
count.
STARTER - loads the starting gate in 'dot' numeric order. If the 'dot'
number ends in 'A', the low car number goes in Lane 1, if 'B', the low
car number goes in Lane 2, if 'T' the single car may go in either lane
(driver's choice). Note: 'B' phase cars are never placed in front of ‘A’
phase cars unless they have a lower ‘dot’ number. The starter may start
the cars AFTER the Lane Lights go out or when they hear the run announcement
followed by the word, “Ready.”
MURPHY - sits near the computer at the finish line and manually fills
in the computer generated Run List
and, optionally, several divisional brackets,
just in case Murphy's Law occurs.
Conventional brackets for each division can be drawn
using the Bracket Aid Report for up to 196 racers per division.
Use of these brackets by a race venue, which has not purchased SuperTimer
II RaceManager Software, is a violation of copyright
law.
