Bracket Aid:
In previous versions of RaceManager, the Big Heat pattern was used to combine bracket patterns for large groups of racers. While this allowed the creation of accurate conventional brackets, it was at best tedious and required a real understanding of double elimination racing. Starting with Version 2.04, a special report called Bracket Aid is used instead. Hopefully this will be an easier process. A portion of a typical report is shown below with directions for use.
This report is by Division in HEAT order, with Heat 1 Phase A Run 237 immediately before Heat 1 Phase B Run 246. In this particular example the Master division starts at Run 237 because there are lots of cars in the other divisions.
Locate the highest heat number in the first round (runs 243/249) which is Heat 4. Make 4 brackets ‘]’ down the page and number them 1-4. Put the assigned cars in each bracket (see Lane 1/Lane 2 for the car numbers). In this particular case, you’ll need to add a round 2 bracket later for cars 303/310.
Note that the winner (WinGo) of Heat 1B goes to Run 261. (Both A phase cars always go to the same B phase). Note that Run 261 is Heat 5. Draw a line to the right from the Heat 1 bracket to a new bracket and number it 5. Note that the loser of Heat 1B goes to Run 265. Note that Run 265 is Heat 7. Draw a line to the left (Losers-Left) of Heat 1 to a new bracket and number it 7. In neither case can you currently enter car numbers since you don’t know the winner/loser.
In later loser brackets, the top of the bracket will come from a previous loser side bracket and the bottom of the bracket will get the Heat number from the Winner side bracket indicating that the Loser goes there. Otherwise the lines connecting brackets would be very messy. Brackets in the SAME round should line up vertically.
Continue in like manner, one heat at a time, until you reach the end. Here's an example of a typical bracket. The example pattern is the initial format for the software scheduling and does not run in order from top to bottom. In the brackets you draw the first round will occur in descending order from top to bottom, though later rounds must necessarily skip around a bit.
Also since you will be going from page to page it’s a good idea to do the original in pencil and to mark off each heat as you create its bracket. When you’ve completed the original you can also get an idea of the size of paper you’ll need for a final finshed version.
