Blank Reports in RaceManager
Apparently Windows XP Service Pack 2 can rarely and randomly create blank reports in RaceManager. We cannot duplicate this problem here. This problem has occurred more than once and with at least one user the reports were fine during a test night but disappeared the next (Race!) day. It is important to know that the requested report is there, you just can't see it.
This problem appears to be associated with the GDI32.dll Windows System file. User groups with our programming language, report language and microsoft all note GDI32.dll problems with XP-SP2. We do not yet have a definitive cure although it has been suggested (and is yet untested by us) to overwrite the file with an earlier version which seems not to have had the problem.
With grateful thanks to one creative user, we do have the following as a work around for the immediate future. Since the report is actually there it can be printed. Just click on the printer icon. Or, it can be saved and viewed with a different application using these steps.
- Click on the save icon (the small 'floppy' disc, third from the right on the top of the screen).
- Click on the down arrow of "Save in:" and choose Desktop.
- Click on the down arrow of "Save as type:" and choose RTF file.
- Click in the file name box and give the report a handy name.
- Then click "Save".
- Exit the report and minimize the RaceManager.
- Double click on the file name you created which should be on the desktop.
- It will automatically open or if not will give you a choice of applications to use to open it. Select WordPad.
- You can then view and/or print the report.
We are working to find the real culprit, but suspect it will be 'cured' in some future Windows update. Thank you for your understanding.
If you experience this problem would you please do the following:
- Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information.
- Maximize the System Information dialog box.
- In the right hand pane, click on OS Name.
- At the bottom of the right hand pane SHIFT-Click on Page file. (this should highlight the entire list)
- Press Ctrl-C.
- Compose an email to dave@supertimer.com with the subject Blank Reports.
- In the body of the email, press Ctrl-V. (This should put the System Information list in the email)
- Send the email. (Sorry, you knew that, right?)
A few of these may help us solve the problem. Thanks.
