Installing the SuperTimer Software in Your Computer

If you did not purchase the RaceManager option, the SuperTimer may be operated from a floppy disk and does not need to be installed on a hard drive, but it will run much faster from a hard drive. (Use the DOS copy command to install timer only software.)

If you did purchase the RaceManager option, it will not run on a floppy drive. A hard drive is required.

To install the RaceManager to a hard disk, put the master disk in your A: or B: drive and type a:install (or b:install). If you can't see the screen, press Ctrl-Break, then type install m to force monochrome operation (required on some plasma displays).

Install will display several messages. The first warns that you need at least 640K of total memory (more is okay). Check your operator manual or try running the DOS chkdsk program.

Then, Install will create a directory on your hard disk (Drive C:) called SUPRTIMR, and copy all the files to that directory. It will also copy ST.BAT, RM.BAT, SUPERON.BAT AND SUPEROFF.BAT as well as substitute CONFIG.SYS AND AUTOEXEC.BAT files to your C:\ (root directory).

Finally it will run the program called RM_ZIP.EXE which is not a program but a compressed collection of all the files required to successfully run the dbc-mifco SuperTimer with the Race Manager option. They are all compressed into one file to fit onto one disk. If you try to run RM_ZIP.EXE on a floppy drive, it will start but quickly run out of room.

To operate the SuperTimer (without the RaceManager), you need only be in the directory with the SuperTimer files and type

SuprTimr
To operate the SuperTimer (WITH the RaceManager), you need only enter your C:\ directory (most systems start here automatically) and type
RM
If you have the RaceManager option and want to run without it, enter the C:\ directory and type
ST
From the SUPRTIMR directory, ST, SUPRTIMR, RM, and RACEMNGR all work but ST and RM will exit to the C:\ directory.

If your computer enters Windows on startup, run the SuperON program and restart your computer before running SuperTimer or RaceManager. When you're done, run the SuperOFF program.

Sophisticated computer users may feel free to change or ignore any of the above (at their peril).
